2024 DESIGN TRENDS PART 2 - This year’s hottest interior design shapes and colours

  • Our blog entitled ‘2024 Design Trends Part 1..’ uncovers the upcoming trends of maximalist style, playful personality and embracing values.  Turning our attention to specific design elements, let’s explore the emerging design colours and shapes we can expect to see in 2024.

  • Going hand-in-hand with tempered maximalism, rich vibrant colours of red with earthy brown undertones will energise our environment in subtle accents but there’s still room for our old favourites, the earthy tones. Arches, the ancient neoclassical design, will re-emerge into our living space with curvaceous curves continuing to be popular.

  • Starting with colour, let’s examine the three big design trends for the year,

    • The emergence of warm reds with a brown undertone, think dark but warm raspberry, burgundy and plum.
    • The return to rich, velvety opulence found in dark chocolate brown along with intense and earthy rusts, terracotta, and greens.
    • Two and three-tone unconventional colour combinations that surprise us.
  • Moving away from sterile white, the home is becoming more welcoming with a splash of earthy red punctuating the scheme through clever accents.

  • Embracing the rich tones of cranberry red, Valeria Vari designed the ‘Tempo’ coffee table for Ilab.design, using the intense natural stone of the Rosso Levante marble. To surprise us with a striking combination, the stand combines black and white stripes wrapped in conical form, using the Calcatta Calvia and Negro Marquino stone to create a colourful visual feast. The peak of the cone intersects the tabletop for a truly timeless design that represents the sun dial. Small in size, but large in impact, the ‘Tempo’ will add a punchy and sophisticated accent to any interior scheme.

  • When it comes to adopting vibrant quirky colours, Tasha Oro’s style is truly one of a kind. With the inclusion of warm red circular ceramics injecting depth into her unique ‘Kahly’ Panels, she chooses her colour combinations symbolically to bridge the gap between Ukrainian and English design. It is the explosion of colour that sets Tasha’s more recent designs apart which evolved from her desire to embrace colour following the onset of war as a symbol of optimism and hope.

  • Yalanzhi Objects, use the ‘Little Greene Paint Company’ for its statement lighting favouring the warm spicy terracotta tones together with mossy greens using the palettes ‘middle buff’ and ‘olive’ and have delighted us in their use of unusual choice of colour combinations. Pictured here is the ‘Plattya’ pendant, combining earthy terracotta with bold ‘lamp black’ and ‘stock’ white stripes, in one of their many custom colour solutions, ‘Okhra Smuzhka’. Their experimentation with vibrant rich red and brown pigments using gently graduating ombre tones lead to the creation of the ‘bagryanyi gradient’, a paint effect whose volcanic intensity erupts to energise the room. The natural tones of brown can also be found in their ‘Baniak’ and ‘Amphora’ pendants designed to resemble ancient clay vessels and jugs which embody the season’s palette of chocolate brown and pumpkin spice.

  • Further examples of earthy tones can be found in the following designs:

  • The nature-inspired vases and sculptures of Gorn Ceramics seen in their deeply scorched ‘Flame’ collection, ‘Harbuzi’ (pumpkin) collection and ancient rusted ‘Corals’

  • The deep natural wood tones in the teak, oak, and walnut luxury panels of YourFoRest.

  • The curvy contemporary chairs of Diza Collective whose vibrant tobacco brown chairs are a dominant colour choice.

  • The marble hued furniture and art collections from Ilab.designs.  Perhaps the most striking example of these can be found in the ‘Duality’ console, designed by Roksolana Denys, whose breathtaking Breccia Pantifico is a perfect embodiment of rich deep terracotta combined with copper and brass finishes to create a truly vibrant design piece.

  • Aside from general colour trends, the prized colour of the year, named by prestigious paint company Benjamin Moore, is the classic yet deeply mesmerising mid-tone Blue Nova and the Pantone colour of the year is a beautifully feminine blush-coloured Peach Fuzz.

  • Vibrant blues feature heavily in the seating designs of Diza Collective and as another bold design choice in Tasha Ora’s upcycled designs, to contrast deeply with the rich earthy reds.

  • Peaches too can be found sprinkled into Tasha Ora’s palette in her quirky design sculptures and in the lighting and sculptural art of Yalanzhi Objects with their feminine and delicate Bavovna panel depicting the gentle bobbing movement of naturally growing cotton flower heads.

  • Turning our attention to shape, softly flowing organic curves remain popular, softening our interiors and continuing the playful feel. The influence of curves can be seen in the following designs:

  • Diza Collective emphatically embraces curves in all their gentle glory. It is perhaps the biggest design influence for their circular collection of sofas, chairs and tables defined by rounded edges with the emphasis on bold contemporary colours. Gently rounded curves form comfortable backrests, armrests and seat pads as well as featuring in the curvy padding of their upholstery, shown in their ‘Harbuz’ chairs to create a dramatic design statement. Curves reign supreme in all of their designs including ‘Ж•Gspot’, ‘Rura’ and ‘Snowy’ Sofa collections.

  • The ‘PROTOZOI’ coffee table and wall panel designed by award winning designer Anna Manako for Ilab.designs is an exquisite example of naturally flowing curves emphasised by their coloured layers of fluid stripes formed by the palettes of Palissandro, Calacatta Verde and Estremoz marble. In an ultra-stylish combination of salty beach colours including white, cream and beige with a hint of blush, it effortlessly complements a variety of colour schemes. With a pearlescent shell-like appearance that defies its strength, reminiscent of the shape of a mussel, the Protozoi, exudes a stylish luxury, creating a visually stunning centrepiece.

  • Panoptikum’s ‘Nuts’ collection which includes the ‘nut’ coffee table expertly mimics the organic curves of a nut.  Enveloped in walnut veneer, to give it an organic richness found on the surface of a nut, the design is warm, inviting, and sculpturally satisfying.

  • The spherical ‘egg’ collection is an iconic mix of personality packed retro and futuristic design. Creating bold colours through cross-sectional layers of sanded and polished mdf and varnish, the iconic egg collection comprises a state-of-the-art coffee table and cabinet with optional built-in speakers.

  • Ilab.design’s VIYALO collection celebrates cylindrical design through its circular fan designs proudly displayed in the stunning marble colourways of Fior di Pesco, Negro Marwuino, Calcatta and Siver Root. The coffee table with its series of marble fans, captures a dimension of space and time. Its interconnected circles surrounded by marble fluting accurately replicate the pleats of a fan, representing wind power.

  • Influenced by the masters of mid-century modern furniture, favoured by YourFoRest, fluid curves remain a dominant influence. The ‘Bends’ collection of wallpanels crafted from solid ash and natural ash veneer, celebrate the wavy contours reminiscent of 2D jigsaw puzzles which can be adapted in a variety of combinations to create a unique, asymmetric, and artistic backdrop.

  • With curves remaining popular, it is not surprising that we will see the re-emergence of the classic and timeless arch, once passed over in favour of contemporary lines, arches are now making a dramatic return to our homes.

  • Examples of classical arches can be found in the following:

  • The ‘PERSPECTYVA’ sculpture by Ilab.designs made from premium travertine, a limestone renowned for its gentle warm tones and the natural stone of Negro Marquino. This stand-alone sculpture with its dramatically curving arches makes a stunning and sophisticated design statement in any interior design project.

  • The O wallpaper design ‘Kyiv-Perchersk Lavra’, designed by Yevhen Lytvynenko in collaboration with Elle Decoration depicts the frescoes adorning the exterior walls of the iconic monastery, with its layers of architectural arches framing gently rolling hills.

  • Wallpaper of metro station

  • The table legs of the Diza Collective ‘rainbow’ table with its architecturally sculpted arc in simple layered contours of plywood. These can be customised to different sizes, colours to suit the client and come with the option of a round or square tabletop.
